Two weeks with Seth!!!

We had this awesome plan - everyone would meet in Provo for Kenna's graduation. Then we would pack and move Kenna and Marah's boxes to my parent's basement. Marah would drive home with us to relax and gather teaching supplies before going to Mexico to teach for the summer. Jon and Meg would celebrate their 5th anniversary (early), leave Seth in Tucson with us while he still flew free, and go on a cruise. Seth would have grandma PLUS his nanny Marah. Well... That didn't exactly turn out as planned - except Meg and Jon did go on their cruise. I was a little panicked wondering how I was going to be grandma on working days, especially when Raz was working in CA both weeks. Kenna's future job training began the day of the cruise so Auntie Nenna wasn't available either. We took a deep breath and with some Auntie Bubba and Erica assistance.... it worked!!!

Looking pretty good after a 5 1/2 hour flight from Baltimore to Phoenix. Meg brought Seth and stayed for a couple of days to get him acclimated before flying to meet Jon for their cruise.Bethany really wanted Seth to call her "Auntie Beth" but his mother already had him trained, "Bubba, Bubba, Bubba" he says excitedly when he sees her.
Meg hopped in when it was time to take Bethany to her tennis lesson so she could say hi to Miss Diane.
Diane thought it would be fun to have her former and current students play each other.

Good game! Beth won by a point.
Beth and Seth assisting Meg and Russell with the dead battery. Actually the battery was fine. Megan's skills at starting a stick shift car were just a bit rusty... Helping Aunt Bubba drive Grandpa's truck (she wishes he'd let her drive...)
Grandpa's home to see Seth (for 36 hrs). Seth helps Grandpa fold laundry. Dryers are a little scary because they have 'leaves' (dryer sheets) . They are also classified as a "man man", which are fans. This is how Grandpa became "Lawnmower". Now when we point at picture of Russell, Seth beams and says, "lawnmower". Grandpa and Seth sharing Seth's snacks.
Mojo after being bopped acrossed the head by Mulan. He had been missing for 24 hours. The entire neighborhood was looking for him. Seth cried himself to sleep in the stroller calling, "Mojo, Mojo". Where was Mo? In the couch. Had he meowed to get out? Nope, not once! He only meows if water is running. He cries and cries and cries if the tub or washing machine is filling, but if he's trapped in a couch - ABSOLUTE SILENCE!
Aunt Bubba protecting Seth by battling the bees making a hive under our deck. She won that night, but the next day they won. We had to call our favorite bug guy.
Stealing Grandpa's tub!Grandpa really wanted to read and hold Bruce's paw anyway.
Now that the bees were gone, Seth could splash in his water table again.
Making his car into a low-rider. He wanted to push it - not be pushed in it. His only temper tantrum was about pushing the car.
Beth and Seth after Bethany's voice recital. We dashed out as soon as Bethany sang. Beth put Seth to bed while I drove to Phoenix to pick up Meg. When Seth woke up the next morning, I was driving kids to seminary. Meg said he looked so confused when she walked in. My beautiful Mother's day blinds from Meg and Beth. Working her way through college as a handiman certainly taught Megan some awesome installation skills! The "Virtue" girls showing their rubies for completing the new YW personal progress requirement (even though they were both done and it wasn't required).
Seth spent his last night in Tucson making a huge mess with the chips at Chilis. We cleaned it up as much as we could and doubled the tip!
Goodbye Grandpa! Raz wanted a picture with Seth while wearing his 'grandpa' tee shirt.
Goodbye to Andrea. On school days, Andrea runs in to grab some lunch and leftovers for dinner break before she dashes off to beauty school. Once I was stuck on a work-related call and didn't realize that Seth had her trapped outside while he was splashing in the water. She didn't dare leave him. I felt terrible!
Just one picture with grandma without the juice - nope. He knew his juice days were over - back to his mean mom and water! Actually, his running around with his pacifer days were over too. If he asked for it, how could I say no?
Last "no no" to Bruce. I bet you didn't know that dogs say "no no" and not "arf arf". Can you see the scary 'leaf' in the background. After 2 weeks, Seth isn't afraid of the scented Wallflower plugins. The first few days we toured the house several times a day as he pointed out each 'yeeve'. (And we have a lot of 'yeeves' to mask pet smells...)
Final picture at Phoenix airport... I was so proud of myself for not bawling - until Meg pushed the stroller through security and Seth turned and looked at me like, "Grandma, aren't you coming?

KGW 2010 Catch-up (Kenna's Graduation week)

Moms have wonderful dreams, which often end up illusions... Kenna's BYU graduation was an awesome celebration, but not exactly as I had imagined. As it turned out, no sisters - not a single one - could come. So ended another dream of having my girls together! Aunt Lori, both sets of grandparents and the proud parents were there so Kenna had plenty of grownups focusing on her!
Russell was in CA so on Wednesday morning I drove the seminary carpool, deposited the dogs in puppy prison (kennel), drove to Phoenix, and flew to SLC. My parents picked me up since Kenna had her last final that evening (a mean grand finale to her college career). Russell's parents picked me up the next morning, and we headed to Provo to spend the day with Kenna. Kenna in her bedroom - an apartment with 6 single bedrooms. She loved it!

Grandpa braved two flights of narrow stairs to help Kenna pack and load boxes into his truck.
We made Grandma rest on the couch on the main floor. That evening we put the Mikesell grandparents to bed (they had their trailer) and went to find some shoes for Kenna to wear to graduation. Then we met my mom at her EXTREMELY ghetto (no working lightbulbs) motel and waited with her until my sister and Russell arrived. It was a very short night.Kenna's graduation was at 8 AM - the College of Life Sciences got the early time. We ate a quick breakfast at 6:30 AM and headed for the Marriott Center. Life Science is a new college combining Exercise Science and Biology - the two 'pre-med' colleges. YAY Kenna!!!
It was POURING when the convocation ceremony was over. Instead of battling the crowds, we opted for the grass and rain.

Kenna's best friend Brian. Next, Aunt Lori and Grandma Jan.

With her proud father (and photographer)
Modeling her dress from Megan.Outside Grandma Jan and Aunt Lori's ghetto motel (it was 'discounted' for a very good reason). Besides the substandard condition of the motel, my dear mom (who is generally a very intelligent/street smart woman) opened the motel room door at 4 AM (twice) to a stranger pounding at her door. It was someone delivering lost luggage. The man INSISTED that she take the luggage, but then came pounding again later because he had the wrong address. (She thought the luggage could be my sister's who was asleep in the motel room next to her.) We had a great time teasing my mother about 'stranger danger'. She's promised to never do that again! Kenna pink scooter - LONG story! Kenna's apartment Lunch at Applebees after graduation Back to campus to take more pictures - another parent made me get into a picture... Kenna loved studying at the library - REALLY! The tunnel in the Richards building leading to Brian's office where she studied and napped. The final pose!!! Then off to Roy to see her sick Grandpa Bud. And to unload the rest of her boxes (on top of Marah's boxes). Free storage in the grandparent's basement! Then a quick trip to Cache Valley to spend the afternoon with the Mikesell cousins.

Meanwhile, at home... It wasn't just Bethany that I left in Tucson. We had a "borrowed" daughter living with us. Our friends were transferred to Texas, but their youngest daughter was a senior in high school AND also in beauty school. The first weekend of March, we became Andrea's 'bed and breakfast' or 'dorm with cafeteria'. (I stole their Summerhays family Christmas picture off facebook.) Bethany had a required (50% of grade) show for her Fashion class (not the easy "Fine Arts" class she thought it was going to be...) AND Youth Conference. So Bethany became a Slaton for the 2 school days, and then became an Evans for Youth Conference. Andrea and the cats stayed at the house.
